La región de Eichstätt estaba habitada desde la Edad de Piedra. Más tarde, fue parte del Imperio Romano. Por eso, todavía se pueden ver partes del Limes y caminos romanos cerca de Eichstätt. La cuidad estaba en la frontera de la provincia romana Raetia.
Ancient Times and Roman Era
The region of Eichstätt was inhabited since the Stone Age. Later, it became part of the Roman Empire. That is why parts of the Limes and Roman roads can still be seen near Eichstätt. The city was located on the border of the Roman province Raetia.
Edad Media: Obispado y cristianización
En el siglo VIII, Eichstätt fue un lugar importante para la cristianizacíon de Baviera. Eichstätt es uno de los obispados más antiguos de Alemania.
Middle Ages: Bishopric and Christianization
In the 8th century, Eichstätt became an important center for the Christianization of Bavaria. Eichstätt is one of the oldest bishoprics in Germany.
Época barroca
En los siglos XVII y XVIII, Eichstätt cambió mucho con la arquitectura barroca. El arquitecto Gabriel de Gabrieli construyó muchas iglesias y edificios. Hoy, Eichstätt es la ciudad barroca mejor conservada de Baviera.
Baroque Period
In the 17th and 18th centuries, Eichstätt changed a lot due to Baroque architecture.
The architect Gabriel de Gabrieli built many churches and buildings.
Today, Eichstätt is the best-preserved Baroque city in Bavaria.
